Overall Rules
1. You may not post anything that constitutes lying, mis-leading statements or violates any copyright laws.
2. You may not post anything abusive, vulgar, insulting, harassing, hateful or obscene that may possibly be considered offensive by another user.
3. You may not post anything that directly attacks another user (also called flaming or threading).
4. You may not post anything that violates any laws. This includes anything about software piracy and warez.
5. You may not post anything that discriminates against others via discussion of race, religion, color, creed or national origin.
6. You may not use excessive emoticons (smilies) - one or two is normally enough to get the point across.
7. You may not use excessive exclamation points - more is definitely not better.
8. The user accepts all responsibility for anything that they have posted - I do track IP addresses.
9. The misuse of HTML or BBCode to affect more than just the individual post or reply is not permitted.
10. Driving up the "viewed" numbers on a thread by using the refresh button or any other means is not permitted and is punishable by permanent ban. If you would like to have your post draw attention, request that it be stickied.
11. Requesting Narration is against the rules. IMing or PMing or eMailing and asking for narration here or there is extremely annoying. At times, we seem to have a never ending stream of them coming from all sorts of different people asking for narration here and there... Don't worry...we'll get to you. If you do not get a response within 72 hours, then you may ask.
Posts / Replies Rules
1. You may not post a message in all capital letters.
- Example: I STAB HIM UNTIL HE IS DEAD
2. You must do your very best to use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. When in doubt, use the SpellCheck feature.
- Example: Thhese webs is the goodest websight.
3. Please do not use excessive abbreviations.
- Example: r u 4 sure going 2 IHOP 2night?
4. Do not make consecutive posts in the same thread. If you have something to add, edit your first posts. Duplicate posts should be deleted using the "edit" button.
5. Refrain from self narrating. While playing, narrators will narrate much of what occurs, your post may say "I shoot him with bow", but not "I shoot him until he is dead" or "I kill him" because there’s no guarantee they will die.
6. In your post, if you have an out-of-game comment, type "**NRPG: Message.**" (Not RPG) Other acceptable ways of saying this are **OOC: Message.** (Out of Character), **OCC: Message.** (Out of Character Context), or simply putting the text [[in double brackets]], or ((double parenthesis)), or **in between asterisks**... as long as its clear.
7. "Smurfing" or pretending to be another player is punishable by immediate ban.
8. Posting in multiple places and making your character appear in multiple places at once is perfectly fine, but some people find it hard to follow the story. You’re posting in multiple places at once, but in the RPG, it’s considered to be different times of the same day. Therefore, if you die in one of them, you must role-play yourself leaving all the others soon, and not returning. In essence, you’re slowly phasing your character away before they die later on that day. Of course, you can quickly return as your reincarnated character. Also, if you gain an item while in one place, you can’t use it in another that you’ve been role-playing in at the same time, as you wouldn’t have had it yet then. You will be able to use it later, for example, after you leave the place; as long as you aren’t role-playing in too many separate places, the next place you’d chronologically be would be where you get the item. Therefore, it is suggested that you stick to only two or three places at once. Finally, your character should never, ever see themselves unless a narrator makes it so.
9. Combating other players is allowed, but you shouldn’t kill another player. Ever. So don’t even try, it’ll just get you in trouble.
New Topics Rules
1. You may not post a topic title in all capital letters.
- Example: I HAVE AN IDEA
2. You may not post the same topic in two different forums.
3. You should check to see if a topic has already been discussed before posting. The search facility is there for this reason. Please use it.
4. You may not use "please read" in any form on 4the headline for the new topic. Users will choose to read posts based on their merits alone.
Violations
1. First violation may result in the post / reply / topic being deleted and a written warning issued.
2. Second violation may result in the post / reply / topic being deleted and the user being banned from the forums for 48 hours.
3. Third violation may result in the post / reply / topic being deleted and the user will be banned from the forums for 14 days.
4. Fourth violation may result in the post /reply/topic being deleted and the user will be banned indefinitely from the forums.
5. Making a new account to circumvent an account ban will result in your IP being permanently banned.
Return after being banned:
Players who have been banned, but wish to return: send an email to lyndwormz@yahoo.com and, depending on why you have been banned in the first place, may be granted a second chance. However, all "second-chancers" will be under probation and may not be re-granted the membership immediately. A delay of a day to a month may take place before their return may be granted.
If you are banned and do not believe you have done anything severe enough to deserve such punishment, send an email to lyndwormz@yahoo.com and explain your side of the story! If I decide that a ban wasn't necessary, I will lift it, and consequences on the one who banned you may have disciplinary action taken upon them.
Once you've registered, you'll be able to fully create your character and live life in DoC. "Coins", commonly identified as "C", can be used to purchase in-game objects such as weapons to help you fight off enemies (real person or non-player character).
This page may be updated when we feel it needs to be.
Your first post can be anywhere at all. Just feel free to pick anywhere (e.g. the Tavern, the Church, etc.) and post anything from "I walk in" to "I walk in after having traveled a long time....". You can tell us how you got here, or just appear. Posting can be in first person, third person, or even second person if you so desire. You can write it straight out, or you can do it poetically as long as it is understandable. Feel free to add little tid-bits like a slight wind blowing if you’re outside, or the smell of water. You may also have your character talk to NPCs. Just casual talk, if its something involving a plot, then make sure a narrator or deity is narrating for the NPC. You can narrate for public workers like waiters in a restaurant or bankers in the bank.
Example: This is perfectly acceptable:
“John sat at the table and greeted the waiter when the tray arrived. He smiled and thanked him, he ate slowly. Fried rice and a soft drink. Across from him sat Ritchie Smith, the two were engaged in a conversation on the weather. Smith made the point on how it might have been caused by uncouth magic. John had mentioned that he thought the situation was deplorable several times throughout. After the meal was depleted, John left a tip of 27 C for the waiter and bid Ritchie farewell before he left the restaurant.”
In the rare possibility that you die, your character information will change, and you will become a new person.
Karma is given by players to players, and also reflects the amount of posts a player has made. If a player finds another player's posts interesting, or is in awe of this player he or she may give a single karma point to this player by pressing the "Exalt" button under their user name. Pressing the "Smite" button takes away a karma point. The more karma points you have when you reincarnate, the better your character will become. Likewise, if you have lower karma, your character may not return as good. The Narrators and the Gods or Goddesses may award karma points for players who do good deeds.
