The Gods of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water predate even the Eternal War. By combining their powers they created beings more powerful than they could ever have imagined; Bënthõs and Vâkmîr. They now spend their time in a separate plane of existence known as the Elemental Fields, and lend their abilities only to those who show appropriate respect and gratitude. However, they’re so powerful that the mere mention of their names can invoke elemental shifts.
Bënthõs and Vâkmîr are exactly the same except for one aspect; where Bënthõs creates, Vâkmîr destroys. They think alike, and have the exact same abilities. In the early days of Bënthõs’ creation, he was lonely and longed for a friend. He created Hëkayä as his mate. Due to their immense similarities, Vâkmîr felt the same way. He created Ëlsträ as his mate.
Bënthõs and Vâkmîr are immortal enemies, constantly fighting for control of the multiverse. They cannot harm one another, so they do battle in another sense. Bënthõs creates, and Vâkmîr destroys. When Bënthõs created this universe, Vâkmîr didn’t see it as a challenge, but as an opportunity.
Bënthõs tried to make creatures on many planets, but he always failed for one reason or another. When he tried it here, however, he was successful beyond previous contemplation. Soon he had created several different species, and then different classes, but those aren’t what made this planet special. Eventually Bënthõs created a sentient species; the Dragons.
All the while, Vâkmîr was waiting for the right time to act. When Bënthõs created the Dragons, Vâkmîr separated them. He morphed those poor souls into Dûrätîkîs, and even implanted a hatred of Bënthõs into their minds. He commanded them to destroy the other Dragons, and to destroy everything that they could.
To defend his humble creations, Bënthõs morphed them, as well. He created the Morzhens, and implanted in them compassion for all living things and an instinctual knowledge of evil. He asked them to defend themselves when necessary and to attempt to rebuild their dying planet.
The Morzhens were led by Wyrm, the first of the Morzhens, and the Dûrätîkîs were led by Vyrn, the first of the Dûrätîkîs. They fought a vicious battle, and many of the Dragons died. Shortly before his death, Wyrm killed Vyrn with three sacred artifacts; the Morzhen Saber, the Morzhen Scepter, and the Creation Amulet. Supposedly, these strange items still exist, but they’re hidden in a place where they can never be found.
Too late, Vâkmîr realized his mistake. He had let Bënthõs create too much, too quickly. It would be nearly impossible to defeat Bënthõs now that he had mortal allies. Vâkmîr decided to wait until he had another opportunity, and so he did. Vâkmîr will undoubtedly arise, but no one can say when...
